2014-15 ScheduleTROY, N.Y. – The 2014-15 schedule for the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's hockey team has been finalized. The Engineers will play 37 games beginning on October 4 against the University of Prince Edward Island in an exhibition game at the Houston Field House. The Engineers' slate includes at least five opponents for no fewer than 10 games against teams that played in the NCAA Tournament, including three with the defending national champions, Union College.
"We are looking forward to testing our men against one of the most demanding schedules in the country, which includes competing in the best league in college hockey," said head coach
Seth Appert. "Getting the opportunity to play in the Icebreaker, along with trips to Denver, Michigan and UNH will provide an opportunity to prove ourselves. Our fans will get to see us take on Boston University, Miami, Bentley and Union in non-conference home games."
RPI's regular season begins on Friday, October 10, in South Bend, Ind., against the University of Notre Dame in the Icebreaker Tournament. Following an off-day, the event continues on October 12, with the Engineers facing either the University of Minnesota or the University of Minnesota-Duluth at 12:05pm. A second road trip immediately follows with Rensselaer visiting former assistant coach Jim Montgomery and the University of Denver for two games in the Mile High City on October 17-18.
Rensselaer returns to Troy to host seven of its next eight games, beginning with a two-game series against Bentley College on October 24-25. Arch-rival Union crosses the Hudson River on Halloween night for the first ECAC Hockey contest of the campaign - Black Friday - at the Field House. The same two teams meet the next night in Schenectady in another league contest.
Four conference home games follow with Harvard University and Dartmouth College (Nov. 7-8) and Princeton University and Quinnipiac University (Nov. 14-15) providing the opposition. The rest of November features four straight non-league road games, beginning at the University of Connecticut on Tuesday, November 18. RPI visits the University of New Hampshire the following Tuesday before a two-game series at the University of Michigan on November 28-29. The games are Rensselaer's first in Ann Arbor since January 1986.
Rensselaer's final two games of that six-game road trip take place at Yale University, the 2013 NCAA Champions, on December 5 and Brown University the next afternoon (4pm). The first semester concludes with a home game against Boston University on Saturday, December 13.
The Engineers' third Tuesday night tilt finishes 2014 when they travel to Harvard for an ECAC Hockey game. The first game of 2015 is just two days into January when Miami University comes to Troy for the first of back-to-back games, RPI's fifth two-game series. RPI returns to league action a week later when it travels to Quinnipiac on January 9 and Princeton on January 10. ECAC Hockey play continues at home on January 16-17 when Colgate University and Cornell University make their annual appearances at the Houston Field House.
Rensselaer's final non-league game, the Mayor's Cup against Union at the Times Union Center in Albany, is the following Saturday, January 24. It is the third straight Mayor's Cup, which drew 7,100 fans in 2014, a 2-1 Rensselaer victory. The Engineers have just one game the following weekend as well, January 30 at Dartmouth, before returning to their customary two-game weekend on February 6-7 in the North Country.
RPI returns home to host Brown on February 13 and Yale in the 38th Annual Big Red Freakout! on Valentine's Day, February 14. A trip to Central New York on February 20-21 precedes the end of the regular season, which features Clarkson University (Feb. 27) and St. Lawrence University (Feb. 28). The game with the Saints is Senior Appreciation Night.
The ECAC Hockey Playoffs begin the following weekend and continue to March 22 and the NCAA Tournament runs from March 28 to April 12. The 2015 Frozen Four will be held in Boston.
All of RPI's games are broadcast live on WRPI, 91.5 FM, and www.wrpi.org. All home games are webcast by RPI TV and can be seen in high definition for free at www.rpitv,org.
