Jaime Lord finished 15th overall to earn National All-America and the sophomore led the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) led the Engineers to a school-record ninth place in the NCAA Division III Women's Cross Country Championships. The 6k race was run at the Lake Breeze Golf Club.
Rensselaer scored in positions nine, 23, 44, 126 and 135. Lord (Stony Point, NY / North Rockland) finished in a time of 21:37.3, which was a 5:14.7 pace and just a second out of 14th overall. Senior
Shannon Trant (Niskayuna, NY / Niskayuna) was second on the team and 36th overall with a time of 21:47.5. She ran at a 5:17.8 split and scored in 23rd. Junior
Maddie Dery (Mahopac, NY / Mahopac) was 68th overall and 44th in scoring with her time of 22:07.5 (5:28.3).
Rounding out the scorers for RPI was junior
Mary West (Fulton, NY / G. Ray Bodley), who was 174th overall with a time of 22:49.6, and senior
Alexa Sakorafos (Brookfield, CT / Immaculate), who was 184th at 22:52.5. Senior
Loki Rasmussen (Ceresco, NE / Raymond) and junior
Allison Thayer (Schenectady, NY / Mohonasen) also competed for the Engineers, finishing in 23:29.1 and 23:57.3, respectively.
Cornell College junior Abrah Masterson was first among the 280 finishers, crossing the finish line in 21:31.1, a split of 5:03.0. Williams College won the team championship with a score of 81. SUNY Geneseo was second (179) and MIT was third (182). Johns Hopkins University and Washington (Mo.) College completed the top five with scores of 188 and 193, respectively. Rensselaer, which is coached by
John Lynch had 337 points.
