RPI FanshopTROY, N.Y. - Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athletes and National All-Americans
Jaime Lord and Ben Fazio have been selected for weekly awards by the Liberty League. Lord was chosen as the Women's Cross Country Performer of the Week, while Fazio has been named to the Weekly Honor Roll. They are both coming off standout performances at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
Lord (Stony Point, NY / North Rockland) earned National All-America by finishing 15th at the NCAA Championship, running the 6k course in a time of 21:30.3.
As a team the Engineers set a school record by finishing in ninth place. There were 32 teams and 280 competitors in the event.
This is the first weekly award for Lord, who ran in all eight meets this season. She had runner-up finishes at Vassar College and in the Liberty League Championship with a third place finish at Rowan University. She also finished fifth three times, including at the NCAA Atlantic Regional, and seventh once. She was All-Liberty League First Team, All-Region and Liberty League All-Academic.
A junior, Fazio (East Greenwich, RI / East Greenwich) was recognized this week after earning National All-America by finishing 20th at the NCAA Championship, running the 8k course in a time of 24:72.2 despite getting tripped up and falling during the race. He ran as an individual. It is the second straight year he has earned All-America after finishing 26th as a sophomore.
A competitor in seven meets this year, Fazio had two victories - the 302-person Saratoga Invitational and 534-person Mike Woods Invitational - with a runner-up (Bates College) and a third place finish (Rowan). The only time he finished out of the top four was at the NCAA meet. A three-time Liberty League Performer of the Week, Fazio was All-League First Team and All-Region before earning All-America.
