TROY, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's lacrosse team has earned Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Zag Sports Academic Honor Squad recognition, it has been announced. In addition, senior
Amanda Lynch was chosen to the organization's Academic Honor Roll.
In order to be an Honor Squad, the team must have a posted 3.0 or higher team GPA for the year. The Engineers, who are led by Leslie DeLano, have a cumulative grade point average of 3.008. Thirteen of the 24 team members reached a 3.0 or higher and seven had at least a 3.5 GPA.
Lynch (Middletown, NY / John S. Burke) had a perfect 4.0 in her final undergraduate semester as a biomedical engineering major. A two-sport athlete, she scored more than 1,000 career points while serving as captain of the basketball team, played defense in lacrosse, and served on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). She was All-Liberty League as a senior when she also became the first women's basketball student-athlete in school history to earn National Academic All-America. She was the recipient of the The Livingston W. Houston Citizenship Award, honoring the "first citizen of the college," ranking high in character, leadership, scholarship, and athletic ability.
A member of the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society and a Differential Equations Math Award recipient, Lynch has been on the Dean's List every semester. She has interned at the Orange County Health Department as well as the Orange Regional Medical Center Biomedical Engineering Department.
The IWLCA criteria for the Academic Honor Roll is a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or greater and the student-athlete must be a junior, senior or graduate student.
