Men's Recap
ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Senior Jessica Calzolari and junior Jessica DeAngelo won two events each to lead host Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) to the 2017 Liberty League women's indoor track and field championship Saturday at Gordon Field House. The championship for RIT marked the school's first Liberty League title in any women's sport.
RIT finished with 206 points, gradually pulling away from second-place Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), which had 162 points, over the course of the meet. St. Lawrence, which had a streak of six straight Liberty League titles snapped, finished third with 114 points. Union (28) placed fourth.
Calzolari was selected as the meet's Outstanding Field Performer after recording victories in both the long jump (5.25m) and triple jump (11.38m) while also adding a second-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles (9.46) and a four-place finish in the high jump (1.53m).
Union senior Noemie Bechu was recognized as the Outstanding Track Performer following her victories in the 200 (26.26) and 400 (58.69). St. Lawrence first-year athlete Laura Gardner, who won the 6-meter dash (8.27) was selected as the meet's Outstanding Rookie. Gardner was the only freshman to record an individual victory in the championship.
DeAngelo joined Calzolari and Bechu as the only other double-winner at the championship. She recorded individual victories in the 60-meter hurdles (9.42) and the pole vault (3.07 meters).
RIT also received first-place finishes from sophomore Rebecca Schwan in the 800 (2:19.95), senior Emma Jones in the 3,000 (10:26.05) and senior Kendra Bush in the shot put (12.55m).
