TROY, N.Y. - For the second consecutive week, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete Ed Trimpert has been chosen as the Offensive Performer of the Week in football by the Liberty League, it has been announced. Joining him as an honoree was Christian Kapp, who was named the Special Teams Performer of the Week. And, Brandt Beck was named to the Weekly Honor Roll.

In a 36-14 victory at WPI in the Transit Trophy Game, Trimpert (Hillsborough, NJ / Hillsborough), a junior quarterback, completed 11 of 17 passes for a career-high 234 yards and five touchdowns - to five different receivers. He was not intercepted and he finished with three rushing yards. Trimpert gave the Engineers a 14-0 lead late in the first quarter with touchdown passes of 5 and 26 yards, the latter on a fourth-and-three play. He added a 33-yard scoring pass in the third quarter for a 22-7 lead before connecting for 15 yards early in the fourth quarter for a 29-7 edge. Trimpert's fifth TD of the game - and seventh of the season - came from 10 yards and put the visitors in front 36-7 with 4:51 left in the game. In total, six different receivers caught passes.

In the season opener the week before, Trimpert led the Engineers to a 45-0 victory over William Paterson University by completing 11 of 14 passes for 161 yards and two touchdowns. He threw a four-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter for a 14-0 lead and then a 45-yard scoring strike in the third for a 31-0 edge. He was neither intercepted, nor sacked and he also rushed six times for 31 yards, including a long of 15 yards.

Last season, Trimpert, a mechanical engineering major, started seven games before suffering an injury. He completed 44 of 93 (47.3%) passes for 497 yards and five touchdowns with three interceptions. He also rushed 49 times for 108 yards and two scores.

Kapp (Amawalk, NY / Iona Prep.), a senior kicker, was honored after making four of his extra point attempts and scoring on a two-point conversion after picking up a loose ball off a blocked attempt and rushing it into the end zone. He also had six kickoffs for 371 yards (61.0 average) with five of them going for touchbacks.

An industrial and management engineering major, Kapp was on the Weekly Honor Roll following the first game when he was successful on his only field goal attempt, a 23-yarder that ended the first half, and each of his six extra point attempts. He also had seven kickoffs for 445 yards, an average of 63.6 yards. One kickoff went for a touchback.

Kapp, who was chosen to the Fred Mitchell Award 2017 Watch List, has made 15 of 24 field goals and 73 of 75 PATs in his career.

A senior linebacker, Beck (Mohnton, PA / The Hill School) was tabbed after leading all tacklers with 10 stops - all unassisted - with 2.0 for lost yards (4), a forced fumble and an interception with a 38-yard return at WPI. His interception ended a long drive (12 plays) and set up Rensselaer's first score of the afternoon. His forced fumble came in the third quarter at the RPI 41 yard line. Beck also helped hold the Engineers to just 67 yards rushing on 26 carries (2.6 average).

RPI returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Western New England University in the first-ever meeting between the two programs. Kickoff is noon at East Campus Stadium.
