TROY, N.Y. - Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete
Michael Arboleda has been selected to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District Baseball Team, it has been announced. The junior outfielder will now be eligible for 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America consideration.
In 28 games this season, including 15 starts, Arboleda (Wappingers Falls, NY / John Jay) batted .317 (20 for 63) with three doubles, a home run, 12 runs scored and 15 RBI. He was second on the team in hitting, while slugging at a .413 percentage with a .371 on base percentage. He walked four times and was hit by two pitches.
Among his top performances was going 3 for 4 with two runs, four runs batted in and two walks in a victory over Iowa Wesleyan in mid-March; going 4 for 4 with a double and a home run, three runs and two RBI in a win over the University of Rochester in late March; and collecting two hits, a run and two RBI in a win over Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in early April. He was chosen to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week once.
Arboleda, a two-time Liberty League All-Academic selection, played 11 games in 2016, notching three hits with a run and four runs batted in over 15 at bats.
A biomedical engineering (biomechanics concentration) and economics dual major with a 3.80 cumulative grade point average, he is a member of Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society and the RPI Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers. Arboleda was nominated for the Biomedical Engineering Society Coulter College Conference by the Rensselaer biomedical engineering department.
The Rensselaer Medalist and Dean's List student had an internship at ABM Industries, working as an assistant to the District Manager of Operations in Manhattan, where he analyzed data and forecasted future sales. This summer he will participate in the Wake Forest REU IMPACT Biomedical Engineering program. He was one of 20 selected from a nationwide pool of candidates.
