Selander Invited to Swedish National Team Camp

Senior netminder will compete for spot on Four Nations Cup roster

Lovisa Selander
TROY, N.Y. - Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete Lovisa Selander has earned an invitation to the Swedish Women's National Team Camp, which will run from August 17-21 in Boson and Uppsala, Sweden. From there, a team will be picked to participate in the Four Nations Tournament in Hodonin, Czech Republic from August 23-25.

Selander, who is entering her senior season at Rensselaer this fall, is one of four goaltenders in camp. The Sollentuna, Sweden, native is the first current or former RPI player to participate in a national team camp since Jordan Smelker '14 attended US camp in 2013.

Selander became RPI's first ever All-ECAC Hockey Second Team selection last spring, going 9-16-5 as a starter in 30 of 32 games in 2017-18. She posted a 2.22 goal against average and a .932 save percentage, while turning away 817 shots in 1,732:37 minutes. She registered one shutout - a 0-0 tie at UConn, stopping 28 shots. Already the school's single-season saves record holder, the Chemical Engineering major broke Sonjia van der Bliek's '11 six-year-old career saves record in a 3-3 tie against Dartmouth.

Through three seasons at RPI, Selander is in the top ten of the program's single-season record books 21 times. In addition to her career saves record, she has already etched her name in multiple other categories including ties (second, 14), games played (third, 97), starts (third, 95), minutes (third, 5,655:28), save percentage (third, .929), goal against average (fifth, 2.38), wins (sixth, 28) and shutouts (seventh, seven).

Over the course of her career, Selander has been named to the 2017 Preseason All-ECAC Hockey Team as well as ECAC Hockey All-Academic three times. Her four ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Week selections in 2016 tied van der Bliek for the most in a single season.

The Engineers went 9-17-6 with a 6-11-3 conference mark last season.
