Day One Results
ITHACA, N.Y. – The Rensselaer women's tennis team is competing in the New York State Championships and through the first round of action, four players have advanced to the quarterfinal round, including sophomore
Zosia Casterline (Farmington, MI/Farmington) at third flight singles.
In doubles action, the third flight pair of
Hetal Baman (Blauvelt, NY/Tappan Zee) and
Kimberly Viles (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating St. John Fisher's Marissa Rotondo and Katelyn Smith by a score of 8-1. They will face NYU's Lisa Mijovic and Ariel Sultan on Saturday.
First doubles action saw
Christine Roe (Phoenix, AZ/North) and
Jessica Sitzer (Rockaway, NJ/Morris Hills) fall to Rochester's Alex Goodman and Frances Tseng by a score of 6-2. The pairing of
Brianna Dickie (Acton, MA/Acton Regional) and
Rachel Smith (Wilbraham, MA/Minnechaug Regional) lost a hard-fought, 8-6 battle to Alfred's Sarah Foster and Holly Seide.
Singles action saw Casterline and Dickie advance to the quarterfinals round out of the opening day of action. Below are the results by flight:
#1 - Roe fell to Alfred's Griffin Currie: 7-6 (8-6), 6-2
#2 - Sitzer fell to Rochester's Alex Goodman: 6-2, 6-2
#3 – Casterline advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating St. Lawrence's Barry Edgar: 7-5, 6-3.
* She will face Skidmore's Nataly Mendoza on Saturday.
#4 – Dickie advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating RIT's Lindsey Gibson: 7-5, 6-4
* She will face Vassar's Elizabeth Anderson on Saturday.
#5 – Baman fell to NYU's Lisa Mijovic: 6-4, 6-2
#6 – Alexandra Armstrong fell to William Smith's Remy Raevesky: 6-1, 6-0
Casterline and Dickie are both back in action tomorrow in the third and fourth flight singles, respectively, while Baman and Viles will compete at third flight doubles at the New York State Championships. First serve is set for 8:30am in the singles matches.
