TROY, N.Y. – The Liberty League has announced its weekly award winners and Rensselaer student-athlete Daniel Martin was named Rookie of the Week for the week ending on November 29. He helped the Engineers to a 2-0 record, providing solid minutes off the bench.

A freshman forward from Cohasset, Mass., Martin averaged 4.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and recorded a team-high five blocked shots, with no turnovers in two games. He scored five points with five boards, an assist, a steal and a game-best four blocks in an 85-80 victory over Mount Saint Mary on Tuesday. He then added four points and six boards with a blocked shot in Sunday's 104-51 win against Paul Smith's.

On the season, Martin is averaging 5.0 points and 4.4 rebounds, while seeing time in all five of Rensselaer's games. Averaging 10.5 minutes, the Cohasset High School graduate has a team-best 11 blocked shots to go along with three assists and three steals. He is shooting .500 (10 for 20) from the field and .833 (5 for 6) from the free throw line.

The Engineers, who have opened the 2009-10 season with a 4-1 record, return to action this weekend, when they host the Tri-State Shootout Tournament at East Campus Arena. Southern Vermont College and Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts open play on Saturday at 6pm, followed by Rensselaer taking on Albany College of Pharmacy at 8pm.

ACP opens play on Sunday against either SVC or MCLA at 1pm, followed by RPI and either SVC or MCLA at 3pm.
