SCHENECTADY, NY – The Union College men’s tennis team claimed a 6-3
victory against Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Thursday afternoon.
The victory was the first of the year for the Dutchmen (1-9), while
Engineers’ record moves to 3-4.
Senior Vic Ravikmar (Briarcliff Manor, NY/Briarcliff), who teamed with
freshman Dan Nault (Longmeadow, MA/Suffield Academy (CT)) for a 8-0 win
in the first doubles pairing, got Union rolling in singles play with a
7-5, 6-3 win against freshman Michael Wilkins (Finksburg, MD/Westminster)
in the second position. Nault followed with a 6-0, 6-1 win against
freshman
Matthew Asher (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott).
RPI senior
Ed Cullen (Wakefield, RI/South Kingstown) claimed a first-spot
victory against sophomore Alex Katz (Lexington, MA/Lexington), 7-6, 6-3
and sophomore
Adam Generale (Dobbs Ferry, NY/Ardsley) outmatched
sophomore Matt Goodnow (Boxborough, MA/Acton Boxborough), 6-3, 7-6, in
the fourth position.
The two teams now prepare for the Liberty League Championship hosted by
Hobart on Saturday, Apr. 18 and Sunday Apr. 19.
