TROY, N.Y. – The Liberty League has announced its year-end honors in men's tennis and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete Ed Cullen was recognized. A senior on the Engineers squad, Cullen garnered All-Liberty League Honorable Mention in singles for the first time in his career.

A native of Wakefield, R.I., Cullen posted a 6-4 record in #1 singles, competing in all 10 matches this season. He also posted a 4-0 record in his singles flight from March 12 through April 5.

Cullen, who earned Liberty League Performer of the Week once this season, had a 3-7 record playing at #1 doubles. He went 3-6 at the first flight with partner Matthew Asher (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) and also partnered with Michael Wilkins (Finksburg, MD/Westminster), going 0-1.

Playing all four years at Rensselaer, Cullen concluded his career with an 18-20 mark in singles for the Engineers. In addition to his successful senior season, he also posted a solid mark as a sophomore, going 4-3, while shifting between two flights. Starting out at #5 and #6 singles as a rookie, Cullen worked hard to earn the #1 singles spot as a junior.

A graduate of South Kingston High School, Cullen also posted a 22-23 career record in doubles at RPI. Starting out at #3 doubles, he had a 10-4 record in his rookie season before going 6-5 as a sophomore in #2 doubles. Cullen made the transition into the #1 doubles spot as a junior, where he had a 3-8 record.

The men's tennis team finished the 2009 season with a 3-7 record.
