Watson Finishes 15th at NCAA Meet

TROY, N.Y. – Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete Ja’Mar Watson finished 15th overall in Thursday’s hammer throw event at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Don Drumm Stadium on the campus of the Marietta College.

A sophomore from Baltimore, Md., Watson posted a distance of 49.48 meters in Thursday’s competition. It marked his first appearance at Nationals, which he entered as the sixth-ranked competitor in the country.

Watson qualified for the NCAA Meet after posting a career-best throw of 56.09 meters at the ECAC Championships. He competed in nine meets this season, posting seventh or better in the hammer throw through eight of those contests. He placed in the top three six times, including four second place finishes and was named the Liberty League Field Performer of the Week on May 18.

Among his top performances was at the SLU Twilight Qualifier, where he posted his first NCAA Provisional mark and placed second overall.

Watson, who attended Glenelg High School, was the Liberty League champion in the hammer throw as a freshman. He is also a member of the Rensselaer football team.
