Four From Hoops Tabbed by Liberty League

Philatre, Rupp, McKinley & Easterling earn weekly honors

TROY, N.Y. – The Liberty League has announced its weekly award winners in men's and women's basketball and Rensselaer student-athletes Ricky Philatre, Tim Rupp, Hillary McKinley & Laura Easterling have been tabbed for the week ending March 7. Philatre and Rupp were named Forward and Guard of the Week, respectively on the men's side, while McKinley and Easterling earned the same honors on the women's side.

Philatre, a senior forward from Randolph, Mass., recorded team-highs in points (17) and rebounds (11) in the Engineers 88-67 loss to Ithaca in the ECAC Upstate Tournament Semifinals on Saturday night. He made 8 of 15 shots from the field and 1 of 2 from the free throw line. He also had a block and a steal in 29 minutes.

On the season, Philatre averaged a 10.1 points and a team-best 8.1 rebounds per contest. A graduate of Randolph High School, he was second on the club in both blocks (21) and steals (25), while handing out 12 assists. His 51.1% (95 for 186) field goal percentage was tops on the Engineers.

A senior guard out of Staten Island, N.Y., Rupp recorded a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds, including seven on the offensive end, in 20 minutes.

Rupp, a former standout at Curtis High School, led Rensselaer in scoring this season, averaging 10.2 points per contest. Playing in all 25 games, he also averaged 4.9 rebounds per game, while leading the team in both assists (57) and steals (26). A 47.1% (96 for 204) field goal shooter, he connected on 35.8% (24 for 67) of his three-point attempts.

McKinley, a sophomore forward out of Quinebaug, Conn., earned her first career Forward of the Week award after scoring 12 points and grabbing four rebounds with three blocks in 13 minutes off the bench, in the Engineers' NCAA Tournament First Round loss (74-63) to Southern Maine on Friday. She connected on 4 of 9 shots from the floor and 4 of 5 from the free throw line in RPI's 74-63 loss to the Huskies.

On the year, McKinley averaged 5.7 points and 5.9 rebounds per game to go along with a team-best 39 blocked shots, 12 assists and 24 steals. She connected on 45.1% (65 for 144) of her field goals, while averaging 16.1 minutes per contest.

A sophomore guard from Ventura, Calif., Easterling led the Engineers with 15 points on 6 of 8 shooting, including 3 of 5 from three-point range in the team's NCAA Tournament game against the Huskies. She also had two rebounds, a team-high four assists and two steals in 21 minutes.

Easterling averaged 4.6 points and 2.9 rebounds in 25 games this season. She also recorded 56 assists, six blocks and 37 steals. A 31.2% (34 for 109) shooter from the floor, she was second on the team in three-pointers made, nailing 20 of 74 shots from beyond the arc.

The men's team finished its season with a 15-10 overall record, including a 7-7 mark in the Liberty League. The women went 17-11, winning the Liberty League Tournament as the third-seed and earning an NCAA Tournament bid for just the second time in school history. RPI went 10-4 in conference play.
