TROY, N.Y. – Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) head women's soccer coach Cord Farmer has announced the 2010 team captains and student-athletes
Briana Gallup and
Tonya Frank have been selected to lead the Engineers in the fall.
“Both Bri and Tonya were voted in almost unanimously by their fellow teammates to lead our team for the 2010-11 year,” said Farmer. “Over the past two years, both have demonstrated great qualities on and off the field, and I believe both will compliment each-other well and are a great fit for what we need, where we are and where we are heading as a soccer program.”
Gallup, a junior back from Amsterdam, N.Y., played in seven games last season, including two as a starter. She helped the Engineers to a 5-5 home record, while hold opponents to 1.83 goals and just 10.9 shots per contest.
As a sophomore in 2008, Gallup played in 14 games, including 10 as a starter, earning one assist. A graduate of Amsterdam High School, she started in 12 of 16 games she played as a freshman.
A sophomore back out of Essex Junction, Vt., Frank played in all 18 games for the Engineers this season, starting 17. She led an RPI defense that surrendered just a 16.8% shooting percentage and .482 shots on goal percentage. Frank recorded four shots on goal and earned Liberty League All-Academic.
Frank started all 15 games at defense in 2008, notching five shots on goal. The Essex High School graduate helped Rensselaer to a 2.20 goals against average.
“Their energy, work-rate and attitudes are terrific and have already set a great tone and atmosphere for the spring term. I look forward to working with them and seeing their impact on the program and all the people involved within it,” Farmer added.
This season, the Engineers went 6-11-1 overall, including a 1-6-0 mark in the Liberty League.
