TROY, N.Y. – The Liberty League has announced its year-end award winners in women's tennis and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete
Jessica Sitzer was named an All-Liberty League Honorable Mention in singles.
A junior from Rockaway, N.J., Sitzer posted an 8-9 record through the team's 17 matches, including a 7-5 mark at second singles. In addition to winning five straight matches from March 28 through April 22, she posted a 9-8 mark in first doubles action with partner
Christine Roe (Phoenix, AZ/North). As a team, RPI went 6-7 on the season.
Sitzer, who is also a captain, was a two-time Liberty League Performer of the Week this season. A multiple Liberty League All-Academic, she helped the Engineers go 3-2 in their last five matches, including 6-3 victory over area-rival Union in the Liberty League Tournament.
As a sophomore, Sitzer posted a 7-2 record at fifth singles and went 7-1 at second doubles with Roe. Among the highlights of her season was a first-round victory in first flight singles at the New York State Championships. Sitzer was 3-3 in singles action with a 4-0 doubles record during her freshman campaign.
A former standout at Morris Hills High School, Sitzer was a four-year standout on the tennis team, serving as a captain in her senior season. In addition to being a two-time All-Conference Second Team selection, she was a Coaches Award honoree. Sitzer also played four years of softball, helping her team to four consecutive conference titles.
