TROY, N.Y. – The Liberty League has announced its weekly award winners in men's and women's outdoor track & field and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athletes Erik Whiting, Rachel Guillot and Kirsten Orrell have been recognized. Whiting was named the men's Field Performer of the Week for the third straight week, while Guillot and Orrell were named the Track Performer and Rookie of the Week, respectively, on the women's side.

A senior from Fultonville, N.Y., Whiting solidified his spot in the NCAA Championships last week, recording his eighth straight NCAA Provisional distance in the hammer throw at the Oneonta State May Meet. He finished second overall with a throw of 54.37 meters.

A graduate of Fonda-Fultonville High School, Whiting has excelled in the hammer throw in all eight meets, posting wins in four. A Liberty League champion and the 2010 Outstanding Performer of the Meet at the New York State Championships, he has also had success in the discus throw, notching four wins this season. He is a five-time Liberty League Field Performer of the Week selection.

Guillot, a senior out of Morrisville, Vt., earned her second weekly honor after finishing second overall in the 400-m hurdles with a time of 1:03.56 in the Oneonta State May Meet. That mark was also an NCAA Provisional time.

The Peoples Academy graduate has had a number of solid finishes this season, including at the Liberty League Championships. Guillot earned All-League honors after helping the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams to victory. She also finished second in the 400-m hurdles as the Engineers won the team title for the second straight season.

Orrell, a freshman out of Millbury, Mass., shined in last week's meet at Oneonta State, claiming victory in two events to wrap-up her outstanding season. She won the shot put with a mark of 12.91 meters and then finished first in the discus with a school record throw of 41.72 meters. Both distances were NCAA Provisional marks and Oneonta State May Meet records.

The Millbury High School graduate was one of the most consistent field performers for the Engineers in 2010, placing ninth or better in the 25 events she entered in eight meets. She recorded four victories in the shot put and was a five-time Rookie of the Week selection.

Whiting will represent the Engineers on Thursday at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships. He will compete in the hammer throw, with preliminaries taking place at 5pm. The top eight competitors advance to the finals, which will be held later that evening following the trials. Each individual who advances earns All-America status.
