In reflecting back on Rensselaer's recently completed athletic season, it quickly becomes obvious that there were – yet again – many memorable individual and team accomplishments, as well as other significant events that occurred. In an effort to relive, remember and celebrate some of our student-athletes and staff members who played major roles in making those occasions a reality, we introduce 11 4 2010-11.
The story below is one in the 11-part series, which will run throughout the next couple of months. The events are not ranked in any particular order. For the full list, along with some 'honorable mentions', eventually, please click HERE.

Men's Hoops Wins Seven Straight to Earn Share of Liberty League Title
The Rensselaer men's basketball team put together one of the greatest late season runs in school history, winnings its final seven Liberty League contests to capture a share of the regular season title and earn a bid into the league tournament for the second time in three years.
After a hard fought 81-77 loss to Skidmore College on January 29, the Engineers had dropped 3 of 4 league games and sat at 4-3 in conference (10-7 overall) with a big road weekend at North Country-rivals Clarkson and St. Lawrence, a series the program hadn't swept since 2005-06, on the horizon.
RPI's bench provided the spark in a Friday night win against the Golden Knights, as seniors
Jeremy Bull (Woodbridge, VA/St. Stephens & St. Agnes School) and
Mike Brion (Nashua, NH/Bishop Guertin) each netted 11 points, while Liberty League All-Rookie guard
Joe Gibbons added 10. The Engineers made good on 7 of 8 free throws down the stretch to secure the 73-65 win.
The following afternoon, Rensselaer took on perennial league power St. Lawrence and battled to a narrow one-point halftime lead (31-30). Solid three-point shooting in the first half (7 for 13) was only improved upon in the second half (9 for 14) as Brion could not miss on his way to a career-high 26 points on 9 of 13 shooting (8 of 11 3-pointers). The Engineers ran away with a big 72-56 win over the Saints, before returning to East Campus Arena for a three-game homestand – its final home games of the regular season.
Senior
Travis Jones (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) hit four three-pointers and scored a game-high 16 points to lead Rensselaer past Skidmore, 65-63, on February 11. Sophomore
Daniel Martin (Cohasset, MA/Cohasset) put together a strong performance off the bench, recording 12 points, six rebounds and a game-best four blocked shots.
RPI had the tough task of trying to sweep the season series with Union College the next day, but did so, thanks to a game-high 21 points from Jones and 13 more from classmate
Mike Hammond (Clifton Park, NY/Schenendehowa). Junior guard
Matthew Pooley (Middletown, MA/Chapel Field Christian School) also chipped in with 10 points, as the Engineers held off the Dutchmen, 74-66.
A mid-week home rout of Vassar (70-50) completed the perfect homestand and ran the club's winning streak to five games, but the final road trip of the season – to Hobart and Hamilton – loomed ahead. A league weekend that RPI had never swept since the Liberty League was established in 1995.
Opening at Hobart on Friday night, the Statesmen carried the best record in the league, needing just one win to end the Engineers hopes of a league title.
Six first-half threes staked the visiting Engineers to a 37-33 lead at the break. Pooley had eight points in the opening 20 minutes to lead all scorers. Clinging to a four-point lead with 12:40 to play, RPI broke the game open with eight unanswered points. Following a pair of free throws by Bull, Martin made another layup for a 61-49 lead. The Engineers then stretched their advantage to as many as 14, and took home a 91-78 victory.
The next day, Martin was the hero as his put-back with three seconds lifted the Engineers to a 71-70 victory over Hamilton in Clinton, N.Y. The win was Rensselaer's seventh straight and despite Hobart's win at Vassar, the Engineers had earned a share of the Liberty League regular season title with an 11-3 conference mark.
