Bobby Parker and
Benjamin Fazio have earned Liberty League awards, it has been announced. Parker, a sophomore, was chosen as the Men's Track & Field Track Performer of the Week, while Fazio, a freshman, earned Men's Rookie of the Week.
In the Engineers' Cup Meet, Parker (Johnston, R.I. / St. Raphael) won the 5000 meters in a time of 15:10.16, outpacing 13 others for the victory. RPI finished second in the men's competition with 146 points, trailing MIT (165.50) and ahead of WPI (87.50).
This is the first outdoor award for Parker, who was recognized once during the indoor season.
Fazio (East Greenwich, R.I. / East Greenwich) garnered his first track & field weekly award by winning the 1500 meters (4:03.82), outpacing 13 others for the victory. He also ran the 800, finishing seventh of 24 in a time of 2:02.62.
A member of the Rensselaer cross country team, along with Parker, Fazio was the Liberty League Rookie of the Week three times in the fall.
On the women's side, graduate student Lydia Frangos (Marion, MA / Masconomet Regional) was named to the Women's Track & Field Weekly Honor Roll after winning the hammer with a throw of 51.01 against MIT and WPI. She also won the discus with a distance of 37.13 and she finished seventh of 10 in the shot put with 9.50 meters. RPI was second with 110 points, trailing MIT (184) and ahead of WPI (98).
Rensselaer's track & field teams are home at Ned Harkness Track & Field on Saturday at 11am.
