TROY, N.Y. - The Liberty League has announced its year-end award winners from women's soccer and four Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athletes have been recognized.
Stephanie May and
Dali Alarian earned First and Second Team selections, respectively, while
Shelby Stromerson and
Maddie Steinmetz were named Honorable Mention.
A sophomore midfielder from Windham, N.H., May played in all 19 games, including 18 as a starter. She recorded two goals and two assists for six points, while taking 23 shots (8 on goal). Recording one game-winning tally, she averaged 83.7 minutes per match and logged more than 90 minutes on six different occasions.
May played in all 20 games for the Engineers last season, including 13 as a starter. She had a team-high four assists, while registering 12 shots, including one on goal. The former Central Catholic High School standout earned All-Liberty League Honorable Mention, averaging 64.5 minutes per match.
Alarian, a sophomore striker out of Folsom, Calif., played in 14 games, including 12 as a starter. Despite missing time due to injury, she led the Engineers in scoring with four goals and four assists for 12 points. She notched 37 shots, including a team-best 14 on goal and was 1 for 1 from the penalty spot. A graduate of Vista del Lago High School, her two game-winning goals were the most on the club.
A senior center back and captain from Snohomish, Wash., Stromerson played in 14 games, including 12 as a starter. She helped a back line that allowed 1.47 goals and 13.2 shots per game. Battling injuries all season, she averaged 62.1 minutes per match. A former standout at Glacier Park High School, she logged at least 90 minutes in five games, including four Liberty League matches.
Steinmetz, a freshman outside back out of Malvern, Pa., played in 18 games, including 17 as a starter. She recorded 14 shots, including eight on goal, while averaging 79.2 minutes per game. The West Chester East High School graduate played 90+ minutes in 10 matches this season, including four in which she played over 100 minutes.
The Engineers concluded their season with a 6-7-6 overall record, coming one draw short of the NCAA single-season mark. RPI went 2-3-3 in Liberty League play.
