This is the first season as track & field captains for each of the five, though Davis had the same responsibility in cross country this year.
As a junior, Davis, an aeronautical engineering major, posted three victories in indoor, including two at the Liberty League Championship Meet, where he won the 800 meters (1:59.92) and the distance medley relay (10:45.98). He had a pair of runner-up finishes in the outdoor season, both in the 1500 meters. Drexler, a geology major, had three second place finishes in 2016 with one coming during indoor (400 meters) and two outdoor, including a runner-up in the league 400 meters (49.77).
Competing solely during the outdoor season, Grella, a mechanical engineering major, finished second in the javelin at both the league championship (49.28) and the New York State Championship Meet (49.47). Also a mechanical engineering major, Taylor had a pair of top three finishes last season, while Trinkle, a biomedical engineering major, won the high jump at Bowdoin College (1.83 meters) and the Liberty League Championship Meet in indoor (PR 1.93) and finished first at MIT during outdoor (1.88). He was also second at the conference championship (1.85).
RPI is coming off a campaign in which it won the Liberty League Championship Meet - it's eight in a row - and New York State Championship Meet and had three NCAA All-America honorees during the outdoor season. RPI was second in the league's indoor meet and third in the state meet with two national qualifiers.
In total, the Engineers had nine top three finishes in the 12 meets that included team scoring.
