TROY, N.Y. - The Liberty League has announced its men's track & field weekly awards and two Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athletes were recognized. Sophomore
Jason Hall was chosen as the Track Performer of the Week, while freshman
Dale Kelly earned Rookie of the Week.
In the season opening meet at Utica College, Hall (Victor, NY / Victor) registered a pair of wins in the two events in which he competed. He was first of nine competitors in the 400 meter dash with a time of 51.40. He then helped the 4x400 relay team defeat 13 other squads, finishing in 3:26.22, with Hall running the anchor leg As a team, the Engineers were second of the six competing schools.
During last year's indoor competition, Hall, a biomedical engineering major, was second in the 500 at Utica (1:08.67) and third in the 4x400 at three meets, including the Liberty League Championship Meet (3:32.22). He was the Liberty League Rookie of the Week once.
Kelly (Manorville, NY / Bishop McGann-Mercy Diocesan), in his collegiate debut, had a second place finish and a victory in two events. He was second of 36 in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.75 before running on the 4x400 team, handling the third leg.
Last year in high school, the aeronautical engineering major ran track for five years, including a captain over multiple seasons. He set four school sprinting records (100m, 200m, 300m, 400m) on his way to earning All-County twice.
Rensselaer, which is coached by
Colin Tory, returns to competition on January 14 at Utica.
